Police arrest man for using unofficial gesture at torch relay
38 year-old Londoner Gerald Drayton has been arrested for making an obscene gesture, as he watched the Olympic torch make its way from Kingston to Hillingdon on Day 1,878 of the relay.
A Police Spokesman said ‘Mr Drayton was arrested after being observed making unpatriotic movements with his right hand. He was waving his clenched fist vigorously up and down, in a manner calculated to cause considerable offence to our sponsors.’
Drayton has admitted that he made the gesture, but was completely unaware that he wasn’t holding a flag at the time. The police decided to take no further action, after Drayton agreed to an on-the-spot flag for £80.
‘I’m so embarrassed that I left my first flag at home’, confessed Drayton. ‘To be honest, I feel like a bit of wanker.’
