As many as 48 PE teachers may have been unlawfully sold by the Department for Education, new figures reveal.
Mrs Janine Scott of Leicester told an inquiry: ‘My husband Keith went to school one Wednesday last October in a clean track suit, and simply didn’t come back. Then I got a letter from the Local Authority saying he had been sold, and I would receive details of his whereabouts within a week. I never did.’
So soon after the Olympics the selling of PE teachers is likely to be controversial. Some have been bought by industry for manual labour, and G4S is understood to have bought at least 12, and then lost them. Two RE teachers have also been sold, although according to DfE this was ‘a clerical error’.
A spokesman for the Association of Sports and Physical Education told one reporter: ‘I don’t care if you are a journalist. I don’t care if you’re Stephen Hawking. Get changed and start running round that field, while we’ve still got it.’
