A London man has been forced to sell his furniture and sleep on the street to make room for all the extra loft insulation he has fitted to combat soaring heating bills.
‘Every time they put up the price of gas, the gas company advises adding 6 inches of insulation to my loft,’ explains Mr Boon, carrying eight rolls of yellow fibre-glass. ‘Same news again today, so I’m doing my bit, but
finding somewhere to put this little lot will be a real challenge.’
Mr Boon has been following this advice for five years since buying his small flat in Thamesmead. ‘My loft room furniture went first, which was a shame as I’d only just had the loft converted. Then my first floor stuff, including the lodger. He went. At least I think he’s gone. Hard to tell. And now I’ve had to move out too.’
‘It’s ironic that I will probably be cold tonight, but my heating costs should be quite reasonable.’
