Ronnie O’Sullivan retires, un-retires, retires again during mid-session interval

Enigmatic reigning World Snooker Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan, today retired, changed his mind and then reverted to his original decision again during the 10-minute break between sessions in his quarter final match at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.

‘I was playing really well, too well in fact, and I just thought I don’t want to spend the rest of the afternoon playing a sport that I find so easy and gives me little enjoyment,’ said O’Sullivan. ‘Then I thought, no, I’ve got a duty to my fans and to the Championship to stick it out even if it is too much like doing a normal job. Then I changed my mind again and retired. That’s it, I’ll never pick up a snooker cue again.’

The mercurial O’Sullivan put his sudden changes of heart down to boredom, excitement, the quality of the biscuits in his dressing room, the way the sunlight dappled the carpet, unending existential angst and boredom again.

As the mid-session interval ended, O’Sullivan picked up his cue, returned to the table and beat his opponent 13-0 with both hands tied behind his back and using only his feet.
