BBC executives are said to be cock-a-hoop with the success of the ‘How we made it’ feature at the end of each show on their channels, and plan to take the concept further.
Starting in September, all shows will include a ‘How we commissioned it’ mini-documentary at the end explaining the mysteries of how TV executives and their friends all collaborate on how they spend the licence-payer’s money.
‘For many hard-pressed families up and down the country, there is a stark choice between whether to heat their homes, eat or watch BBC repeats,’ said a BBC governor. ‘Now people can see how the decisions were taken about where to invest their hard-earned money.’
In an extension to the scheme, all BBC3 programmes are to include an additional segment on ‘How we filmed the feature on ‘How we commissioned it”.
