Top Lib Dem quits in protest over making party colour ‘slightly less orange’
Former Lib Dem Minister Sarah Teather has resigned from the party, citing ‘disappointment’ at the party’s decision to make its official colour less intensely orange and ‘a tiny bit yellower.’
‘The orange that this Lib Dem party stood for when I joined spoke about democratic liberal values of liberalism and democracy,’ said a shaken Teather. ‘Now I see it being diluted, drip by drip, and moving yellow-ward in a way I can no longer sign up to.’
Ms Teather was at pains to support some of Nick Clegg’s coalition achievements, including tougher guidelines on lettuce levels in school salads. ‘I fully supported almost all the ties he wore until around June of this year, and many of his socks,’ Ms Teather told reporters.
Lib Dem spokesmen denied the new colour represented a change in liberal values. ‘Three people in focus groups said it looked a bit like fake tan, and that’s why we changed it,’ he said colourfully.Click to send this story to a friend
