Toronto mayor, Rod Ford, tried to turn his run of bad luck into a positive today by announcing that he was hoping to regain respect by joining Monty Python’s stage reunion.
Ford claimed his recent antics in the council chamber were an ‘audition’ and stressed that he was merely showing his deep understanding of surreal comedy. He shrugged off his collision with Pam McConnell as ‘slapstick’, the drink/drive gestures aimed at another councillor as ‘satirical in nature’, and stated that his recent troubles with crack cocaine resulted from one too many while attending the Just for Laughs comedy festival.
Stripped of his remaining powers and reduced to being a mere figurehead, Ford remained upbeat and seemed excited by his new plans, acknowledging that it was time for him to do something completely different. Asked what he would do if rejected by Monty Python he confided that he is already in talks to go on tour as one half of Ford and Flowers.
