The child, who claims he was speaking to Jesus, remains in intensive care 13 hours after he was found scratched and bloodied in the upstairs bedroom of his rural home. His grandfather, Digory Kirke, says that doctors are optimistic that he will recover, though is said to be unsure about the circumstances leading up to the attack.
‘Kids have fervent imaginations, but I can’t possibly imagine why he claims a lion attacked him, nor what actually did – I can’t understand what happened’, said Mr Kirke. Neither parent was available to provide a comment at this time.
Social Services are now said to be involved, though both parents and grandfather deny allegations of child cruelty.
Psychologist Dr Greene suggested that this could be an example of extreme self-harm, which has been rising in recent years.
