T. A. recruit awarded Victoria Cross for role in de-humidifying Somerset second home
A 16 year old army reservist from Taunton has been awarded the Victoria Cross for his ‘selfless’ actions in the wake of the flooding of a ‘family friendly’ holiday home in the Somerset levels.
Armed only with a of copy insurance documents and a diesel powered dehumidifier from B&Q, the young hero maintained phone contact with the London-based homeowners throughout the crisis, at times neglecting to respond to photo messages received via ‘Whatsapp’ and nudges on ‘Facebook’.
The plucky teenager was more than aware of the risks of his actions ‘I knew that the humidity levels, presented a clear and present danger and that my iPhone ‘contacts’ list could have been lost. I feared that my ‘life’ might be lost. I never stopped to think about my socks getting wet. You just pray it’ll never be you.’
