Sheep in Wales suffer from a lack of a long-term vision, according to a review by the OECD. ‘Welsh sheep are lagging behind sheep in other parts of the UK,’ the report’s authors say. ‘The country has too many under-performing breeds content to just stand around in fields all day munching grass. They need to look beyond the farm gate.’
Welsh farmer Davyd Jones said he put the lack of a long-term vision in Welsh sheep down to the way Welsh lambs were allowed to frolic around in fields all day. But he dismissed the OECD report as ‘woolly’.
