Monopoly to withdraw get out of jail free cards
Dozens of armed robbers, rapists and evaders of the TV licence fee have used get out of jail free cards to dupe prison staff supplied by G4S and Serco into allowing them to abscond. After intense pressure from the Home Office and the Police Federation, Hasbro, makers of Monopoly, have said they will no longer supply the cards in new games.
But professional Monopoly players launched a violent protest outside Hasbro headquarters, saying that without the cards the game would be unfairly skewed. ‘The requirement to throw consecutive dice doubles means longer jail sentences, and is contrary to human rights’ said one dissident. At one point protesters threatened to squash Hasbro HQ with an enormous iron. Police made 38 arrests but later released all the protesters without explanation.Click to send this story to a friend
