England defeat blamed on not enough flags back home
Sporting experts have put the blame on England’s 2:1 defeat to Italy squarely on the fans back home for their insufficient support with flags and bunting, and without a massive surge in flag waving over the next few days England’s chance of winning the tournament look slim.
These thoughts seem to have been echoed by England manager, Roy Hodgson, at today’s press conference. He said “How can you expect Wayne Rooney to be at peak performance when every single minute on that pitch he is thinking that almost one in five houses in his home town doesn’t have an England flag on display? It’s killing him inside.”
Indeed, surveys have shown that in some parts of England up to one in three houses is not showing any England flag at all – and even some of those that are displaying flags are displaying flags smaller than appropriate for showing support for our National Team. There have even been reports of some cars carrying just a single England flag.
BBC football pundit Phil Neville added that this lack of support was dragging everyone down “it even made me lose my enthusiasm for reporting. But what do you expect in a country where a whole new generation has been brought up to pronounce England in just two syllables?”Click to send this story to a friend
