24-hour ceasefire announced in Gaza to celebrate Prince George’s 1st birthday
Israel and Hamas have agreed a 24-hour ceasefire to allow both sides in the conflict to fully celebrate the 1st birthday of Prince George. The ceasefire was brokered by UN chief Ban Ki-moon and has been hailed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as ‘an opportunity to reflect on the important things in life’.
Hamas leadership has issued a statement welcoming the temporary cessation in hostilities as ‘a chance to put things into perspective, even though we have lost 600 of our people in 14 days nothing raises the spirits like a royal occasion, if only for a few hours before the slaughter starts again.’
‘The ceasefire is crucial’ one Palestinian mother said ‘it’s impossible to concentrate fully on the new pictures of little George with the butterfly when the bombs are falling all around and you don’t know if this day will be your last, we might even get the bunting out later. Thank God for the royal family that’s all I can say.’
