Aston Villa assistant manager Roy Keane has confirmed that his beard is leaving to take up a role with legendary Irish folk band The Dubliners.
In an interview yesterday Keane told BBC 5-Live ‘I had a call from the band’s manager. He said he’d seen me on ‘Match of the Day’ and thought my beard would fit in perfectly with the band. Apparently they have a new female flautist who has no facial hair at all, never mind a big bushy grey soup-strainer like mine. He asked my permission to speak to the beard and after a full and frank discussion we’ve decided to part company. It’s sad in some ways but at least it’ll stop me being mistaken for a tramp.’
Keane’s beard is relishing the fresh challenge with The Dubliners. ‘I’m looking forward to joining the band on tour and being covered in Guinness and fag-ash,’ the beard told Sky Sports News. ’I’ve enjoyed my time with Roy at Villa but we’ve not always seen eye-to-eye, the last straw was being called ‘lazy and unambitious’ in his autobiography. Don’t worry though I’ve got a few tales to tell about him. It’ll all be in my forthcoming book ‘If a Beard Could Talk’, in shops for Christmas’.
