Men who wear red trousers in public places may suffer from a rare type of colour blindness, according to an article in this month’s British Medical Journal.
‘It’s the only plausible explanation for why men would voluntarily wear red trousers in public,’ say the research team. Mustard corduroys, bright blue trousers and yellow jeans may all be a result of this unfortunate medical condition, explains the article. ‘Like cats, red trouser wearers see their clothes as black or in shades of grey.’
‘The only other possible explanation is that these men can actually see what their brightly-coloured trousers look like; but then we are looking at a much deeper level of brain malfunction that does not bear thinking about.’
