SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed that she is to ride the bookies favourite ‘Mister Ed’ at Saturday’s Scottish Grand National in Ayr. Sturgeon, who is riding high in the popularity stakes after another impressive performance in Thursday’s BBC debate, told Channel 4 Racing that she was looking forward to getting the whip out to drive Mister Ed over the finishing line.
‘I rode Mister Ed on Thursday’ said Sturgeon. ‘He didn’t seem to like me riding him so hard at first. Then I explained to him that if it came down to a photo-finish with the joint-favourite ‘Dangerous Dave’ he would need my help to win and he soon got the bit between his teeth. And If I have to use the whip a bit it’s only because I have to show him who’s the boss’.
The race is also due to feature 2 horses that ran in last weekend’s Grand National. ‘Nice Nick’ finished in fourth at Aintree after resolutely sticking to the centre ground all the way round while ‘Naughty Nigel’ veered off course at Canal Turn after lurching too far to the right.
