Furious members of upmarket Chelsea FC are to complain to the council after their quiet Sunday afternoon was ruined by singing football fans.
The peace of the Stamford Bridge complex, home to a hotel, shopping centre and corporate meeting rooms, was shattered by so called supporters from Crystal Palace who allegedly tried to sing and ‘get behind’ their team. Incredibly, a legal loophole leaves the police powerless to act, as the ground was historically used for football games. On Sunday, officers were forced to stand by and watch as football fans from south east London put on a provocative display of exuberance, in which many were seen to be openly enjoying themselves.
The root of the problem can be found in the deeds of the property. The exclusive venue also has a football pitch which is occasionally for what many members of the complex refer to as ‘home games’. It was one of these events on Sunday which at the root of the controversial events on Sunday, when fans of another club were accused of getting excited and causing an ‘atmosphere’.
