Sir Bobby Charlton has pledged that his all-time England goal scoring record is only out on loan to Wayne Rooney. The 77 year old England and Manchester United legend confirmed he is back in training with a view to catching Roy Hodgson’s eye ahead of next summer’s European Championships in France.
‘First thing this morning I was down training at Carrington with Nobby Stiles putting me through my paces’ said Charlton. ‘It was just like old times, Nobby and I hurling the medicine ball at each other’s stomachs and putting the head on the brick wall to strengthen our neck muscles. It was tough but Nobby’s stable according to the hospital’.
Charlton is confident that he can do enough to impress Hodgson in time for next summer and has even had a hair transplant to have his famous combover reinstated. ‘I’m also getting a tattoo done of my Grandchildren’s names’ said Charlton. ‘If only I could remember what their names are’.
‘I’ve got everything the modern striker needs’ continued Sir Bobby. ‘An eye for goal, big game experience, two new hips and a B&Q discount card. Is Ron Greenwood still in charge?’
