The National Association of Fitness Professionals is braced for New Year’s Day, when the nation’s brief resolve to lose to that Christmas weight and get in shape for the summer holiday is momentarily displayed.
‘It’s a very messy time down at our gyms,’ said Emma Lightwater, a gym manager from Coventry. ‘January 1st is the worst, we have to get in a load of temporary defibrillators for the month due to the increased number of on-machine heart attacks. We also have to bring in around the clock cleaners for the amount of casual vomiting that occurs.’
In a parallel statement, the industry body that represents the Lycra supply industry have today warned that Lycra could be in short supply in January, as high demand is compounded by the fact that most of it is in XXL sizes and above.
