Money Saving Expert consumer blogger Tim Peake saved a whopping £8.00 on his journey from his home in Chelmsford to work in Sheffield by going via the International Space Station instead of going by rail.
Major Peake said ‘Obviously it isn’t for everyone, but if you’re willing to go 3,000 times around the Earth to get home it’s worth it. Space may be dull and featureless, but the alternative is to go through Peterborough.’
He was also pleased that his meals on-board the ISS were included in the fare. ‘They’re bland, unrecognisable compared to normal food and served in small bags, but they still beat a Midland Mainline egg and cress any day of the week’ he beamed.
‘I wasn’t expecting to become a celebrity’ Peake admitted, ‘but if my work can help travellers get a better deal, then my stratospheric short-cut will have been worthwhile.’
