Queen wants England to play 4-4-2 at Euros, Sun claims

Buckingham Palace has complained to the press watchdog over The Sun’s claim that the Queen favours a traditional 4-4-2 formation for England in France this summer rather than the 5-3-2 formation with overlapping wing-backs favoured by Roy Hodgson

‘Her Majesty told me that 5-3-2 would leave us exposed in midfield,’ an unnamed source, believed to be a palace gardener, was quoted as saying ‘and when I suggested that Rooney could always drop back to make up the extra man she got aggressive and said that baldy tosser wouldn’t be in the squad at all.’

The palace has insisted that the Queen is ‘tactically neutral’ but The Sun is standing by its story. ‘It won’t be the first time, either,’ said Sun sports editor Barnaby Green. ‘When she was introduced to the England team at Wembley before a World Cup qualifier in 1993, she asked Carlton Palmer how the fuck he got in the team? At the time nobody really minded because we were all wondering the same thing.’
