Shakespeare gives 400th anniversary celebrations of his death a miss

Following a personal invitation from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, the Bard of Avon asked himself ‘To be there or not to be there’ and decided he could happily miss the New Orleans jazz procession, souvenir tea towels and free selfie pics on offer at his 400th death day celebrations.

Apparently it was the prospect of leading a Shakespeare-themed town trail peppered with dramatic tableaus by ‘Shakespearian’ thespians convinced the Bard that he should roll over for another 400 years.

Rowan Atkinson, Sir Kenneth Branagh and Lenny Henry are currently on stand-by to salvage the situation and the answer to the question ‘Wherefore art thou?’ remains firmly buried in Mr Shakespeare’s tomb. Some smartarse who pointed out that ‘Wherefore actually means “why” as any fule kno’ was beaten to death and thrown in the Avon.
