Mr Rich Goldsmith, known as Homeless Zac, has been ousted from his seat in Richmond Park, London. It caps a personally disastrous year in which he was moved on from what he had seen as his home on London’s South Bank.
Zac, an eccentric character who is well known locally, had adopted the bench in the Park, claiming it was a ‘greener way of living then most lifestyles in the South East’. Stooping to talk to anyone who would listen, this tall, well-spoken man liked to gently regale passers-by about the dangers of the EU and how London’s Mayor was in league with the devil. Sometimes he could be seen waving his fist at the sky and shouting at passing planes. But generally he cut a graceful if ineffectual figure, which some Richmond residents mistook for a poplar tree.
It is not known what will happen to homeless Zac now. His seat has been taken by another itinerant person, known as ‘Sarah Lonely’, who said she was ‘grateful to Zac for the way he handed over his position without a fight’, chivalrously saying she needed it more than him.
