Rabbit hole leads to ancient rabbit warren

A rabbit hole discovered by chance by a Kent farmer, is believed to have been lived in by rabbits up to 5,000 years ago. The innocuous entrance, which was largely hidden by piles of rabbit poo, led to an intricate network of tunnels and chambers each of which were also full of poo.

The find throws new light on the habits of rabbits in the middle ages and provides firm evidence that the shape and overall dimensions of rabbit poo has remained unchanged over time. Archaeologists now face a race against time to record and recover as much poo as possible before the site is bull-dozed to build affordable housing.
