Undercover HMRC official played over 200 times for West Ham

In what is believed to be the first ‘deep cover’ operation perpetrated by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs Agency, an official has been confirmed to have played over 5 full seasons for the club, scoring 27 goals with adding 35 assists.  Speculation as to the identity of the player has become a closely guarded secret and it is believed that ‘schoolboy errors’ were deliberately made, so as not to blow his cover.

A HMRC spokesman refused to ‘confirm or deny’ the report, but did state that any HMRC employee that failed to declare international caps was in breach of his code of conduct.
