Donald Trump has snubbed The Batley Bugle by turning down, for a second time in succession, its offer to name him person of the year.
Editor Simon Wilkins said, ‘we thought that it was an honour we’d like to extend to Mr Trump, even though he never got back to us when we offered it last year. We’d decided that it was between him and weasel-fettler Tommy Stokes, like, as to who we would choose for 2017. We were all dead excited when this time the President replied, but sadly it was to tell us that unless we ruled Tommy out of the running then he wasn’t interested. He refused point blank to fill in our questionnaire or to supply us with a photo of him and Melania. So we had to hand the award to Tommy.’
In turning down the accolade Mr Trump now misses out on an all-expenses paid weekend at The Farrier’s Arms Coaching Inn, where he and the First lady could have had The Alderman Winstanley Suite at their disposal and shared a slap-up steak dinner in Mirabelle’s Bistro. Meanwhile it’s understood that Mr Stokes was delighted to have beaten Mr Trump in the contest and he has now offered his services to The Democratic Party for its 2020 election campaign.
