There are expected to be further delays and cancellations of weather across the UK, as extreme transport conditions continue. The Department of Transport Office has issued an amber warning for rail cancellations and delays in the West Midlands, and a yellow warning for congestion in the East Midlands.
All clouds over East Midlands Airport have been cancelled for the rest of the day and are threatening disruption to rain services, while Lincolnshire Police warned that most winds in the county had become completely jammed and urged people not to make smoke unless absolutely necessary. Northern Rain announced that they were unable to provide any service at all on the main cross-Pennine watershed until train services resume, and Cumbria’s usually constant precipitation was halted for the fifth day running as rail networks experience one-in-1,000-year extremes.
A spokesman identified the root cause of the disruption as ‘the wrong kind of white blowing stuff’.
