Amazon ‘concerned about scam email messages from HMRC’

Amazon has warned its customers to be ‘vigilant’ against scam emails. ‘Just because it says Amazon in the heading, and final demand in the text, it doesn’t mean you really owe HMRC billions of pounds,’ said an Amazon spokesman today.

The online retailer is attempting to educate Britons – mainly tax collectors – to ignore emails, phone calls and even letters that attempt to extract ‘ridiculous amounts of money from us.’ The company claims it really can’t owe as much as the taxman says and suggests ‘looking in your safe place, perhaps in the dustbin, or round the back.’ It insists it has paid everything it owes, but isn’t responsible if no-one was in and ‘some boys took it instead.’
