A man is being encouraged to get professional help after he was unable to secure a discount voucher online for an evening meal at his local Pizza Express. Mike McDaid, 45, was forced to pay full price for the three course meal for his family of 4 at the Guildford branch of the popular Pizza chain, leaving him facing widespread ridicule and almost certain financial ruin.
‘This has never happened before’, said an embarrassed McDaid to his family, after a waiter informed him that his online voucher for 25% off food was only valid Sunday through Thursday and that none of his other 10 discount codes could give him anything, not even paying classic price for a Romana-style pizza base. ‘I’ve been under a lot of stress at work…I dunno…I must have missed the small-print exclusions, but surely I must be able to have some dough balls for half-price or something?’.
‘It was a perfect storm’, said one fellow customer. ‘Saturday night. Full three courses ordered and you could see they’d gone for some of the fancier desserts that are never in the voucher offers. Weak wifi signal so he couldn’t check for more vouchers when the bill came in. Poor bloke – he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.’
‘We’ve all heard on social media about these ‘mythical’ people who have paid full price for their meal but I’ve never actually seen one in the flesh’, continued the customer. ‘When his bill came, it was like watching the bushtucker trials on I’m A Celebrity – you want to look away, but you just can’t.
‘I think they’d also foolishly taken the waiter up on his suggestion of a couple of portions of polenta chips too’. continued the customer, shaking her head. ‘There but for the grace of God’.
