A work colleague of Daniela Tejada, the attractive wife of the academic recently jailed in the United Arab Emirates on spying charges, smiled through gritted teeth today at the news of his safe return.
‘It’s wonderful, the news we were all hoping for,’ he lied to journalists today.
Tejada for her part thanked all her colleagues for being so supportive without mentioning him in particular, which he found particularly galling.
‘I mean, what did anyone else even do?’ he grumbled. ‘I was making her cups of coffee all the time. Always asking if she was OK, if there was anything I could do.’
‘I hadn’t yet suggested a drink after work – it felt too early for that. Maybe after he’d been missing for a year or so.
