For the first time in his life Donald Trump is said to have spent an awful Christmas racked with an attack of chronic self-doubt, after a seven year-old girl from South Carolina spoke to him on the telephone during what was supposed to be a PR opportunity on Christmas Eve.
The toe-curling incident came as the President and first lady Melania Trump spoke on separate lines to children whose calls to the NORAD Santa tracking mission had been patched through to the White House.
Sitting technically just about together in the same room, but in a manner that’s being described by body language experts as betraying ‘a void of aching misery, unspoken repressed hatred and deep-deep sadness between them’, the camera zoomed in as Mr Trump took a call from the little girl.
But instead of speaking to the President about Santa delivering presents around the world she instead asked him: ‘Mr Trump, in view of these first two years of shambolic bumbling, crass nepotism, the baffling hiring and firing of aides every two weeks, talk of your impeachment, not to mention the overriding level of utter incompetence displayed by your administration, do you still believe that you are really the US President?’
‘Because at your age and after all I’ve pointed out then that’s gotta be marginal now, right?’
