Prime Minister Theresa May has announced arrangements for a “megavote” for UK voters in mid-May. The vote will include a referendum on EU membership which, she hopes, will finalise the UK’s position with regard to the EU.
“There are a number of important issues facing the country” said the Prime Minister, “and my intention is to resolve as many of these issues as possible. There will, therefore, be a four-choice EU referendum; independence referendums in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight and Cornwall; regional and local elections throughout the UK; elections for the European Parliament; a referendum on a move to proportional representation and voting on this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Come on, Michael!”
Voters will be presented with a 49-page document which will include instructions, FAQs and multiple voting forms and the “megavote” will run for four days, in accordance with a timetable drawn up by Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling.
