A new multi-player online game on Brexit has been released. Sponsored by the EU, it depicts a world in which an increasingly unlikely series of events lead to the UK failing to achieve an exit.
The storyline begins with the PM calling an ill-advised general election, failing to campaign, and losing a majority. It continues with a comic description of a negotiating style that excludes MPs from involvement, a court judgement that says Parliament must have a meaningful vote on the deal and a coalition with the DUP. The flight of fancy continues with the deal being rejected three times by parliament, a vote that forbids a no-deal exit, a failed attempt to remove the PM, and a series of extensions to the deadline by the EU.
The game’s development was begun in 2016 just after the referendum, and the EU’s senior bureaucrats were involved from the beginning. Despite being clearly bonkers, it is proving to be very popular with some, . ‘We’ve been playing early versions of this game for years,’ said EU president Jean-Claude Juncker.
