Following a series of admissions by fellow Leadership candidates earlier this week, the spotlight has now fallen on the Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt. After seeking to deny his past misdemeanours all morning, he was finally outed by the Daily Mail, who published evidence that Hunt has something of a chequered history. It has emerged that Hunt spent several years running the Department of ‘Health’. During his tenure it appears that Hunt was responsible for a dramatic increase in spending on drugs, though he continues to deny at any point inhaling.
Rory Stewart, one of a dozen or so rivals for the top job, admitted to being ‘shocked’ at the news. ‘As I was walking across Afghanistan at the time I had no idea about this. I am sure we will shortly hear an apology from Jeremy, and perhaps he will do the right thing and withdraw his candidacy’. Another candidate, Matt Hancock, believed to be the current Health Secretary, has not been available for comment.
