Government pledges 100 more horses to bolster armed forces

Defence secretary Penny Mordaunt has promised the Ministry of Defence an extra 100 horses after claims that austerity measures have left the UK ill-equipped to deal with the threat of modern warfare. These, she vowed, would mean our armed forces will be able to mount a cavalry charge on any artillery battery – no matter how well dug-in they are or how many canons they have.

Defence analyst Colin Russell warned that striking a trade deal with the Faeroe Islands does not prepare you for armed conflict with nations like Iran or Russia. ‘Nor does asking Liam Fox to settle a fish quota dispute with the EU prepare you for armed combat with Iranian Revolutionary guards,’ he added, ‘although to be fair to Fox, going to war with Iranian guards would be a lot easier’.
