There was very little surprise today when an unnamed Downing Street source confirmed that the recent major power outages had in fact been orchestrated by No. 10 as a “proof of concept” method for preventing PMs voting against a No-Deal Brexit in the Autumn.
“It’s ‘Plan B’,” admitted the anonymous insider, “but it could be needed and we had to make sure we could make it work.”
It appears that with MPs reluctant to accept any available deal but also unwilling to allow a No-Deal Brexit, the PM is being forced to turn to extraordinary measures to push through his policy of leaving the EU at all costs.
“Proroguing of parliament was the obvious solution to avoid MPs getting in the way of the PMs agenda” confirmed the insider “but that plan was leaked and so there might be time for a legal challenge if he goes that way now. However, all the legal challenges in the world can’t give MPs a vote if nobody can see which lobby they are passing through”.
Challenged on the possible impact on hospitals or on the elderly in the event of a cold autumn, the source was completely un-phased; “the PM said ‘Do of Die’ and so frankly if a few old fogies drop off the social-care budget that’s just policy”.
