Tories to hold referendum on Maastricht treaty

In the spirit of their party strapline ‘Always looking backwards’, the Conservatives have finally agreed to table a motion in the House of Commons to hold a Referendum on the 1992 Maastricht Treaty. A government spokesman said: ‘We have so many old bastards banging on about “Why didn’t John Major hold Referendum, what was he thinking, we were happy as we were’, we have finally had enough, and given in.’

It is thought that the vote could be held as early as June 2021, or until enough red buses became available to take facts and evidence about the ramifications of voting ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to a well-informed, logical Electorate capable of grasping complex arguments, particularly around the area of understanding what a fallacious argument actually is. If the new Referendum results in a ‘No’ vote, it would leave the UK in a common market and customs union or, as it is more commonly known, ‘Mrs May’s Deal’.
