Environment Minister Theresa Villiers has defended recently announced plans to change the collection schedule for domestic waste from fortnightly to annually. ‘Perhaps this idea seems a tad radical at first sight, but it’s one that will see great environmental improvements. For example with many fewer bin lorries on our roads carbon footprints and exhaust gas pollution will be significantly reduced,’ she said.
‘And even if bubonic plague reappears as a result of the filth and squalor, it will be a small price to pay when you consider the overall benefits for investors. Anyway, we’ve got antibiotics these days so what’s the big problem?’
