Following on from his now infamous BAFTA acceptance speech, the actor and activist has vowed to go even further in his fight against systemic racism by only starring in black comedies from now on. ‘No longer will I be a part of the problem,’ said Phoenix in a post BAFTA interview.
When questioned if he understood the term ‘black comedy’ by reporter Jessica Nguyen, the Joker star called her ignorant, donned a pair of dark sunglasses and refused to participate in any further interviews. The actor made headlines last year for bravely wearing the same suit to all awards ceremonies, a move which was championed by Greenpeace. ‘If everyone took such a strong stance to combat waste the world’s problems would be solved,’ said a spokesperson for the organisation.
