The residents of Chorlton in Manchester were left 'disappointed and embarrassed' yesterday after it was revealed that a newcomer to the town isn't taking part in the Channel Four series The Secret Millionaire, as many had assumed, but is in fact an out of work handyman as he had originally claimed.
'It all seemed a bit too much like a set up to me' said local resident Tony Morgan. 'This fella shows up out of nowhere asking if he can 'help out here and there', offering to volunteer at the old boxing club down the road, generally getting himself known around town. I thought to myself 'Hello, there's something going on here', and that's when I remembered The Secret Millionaire. I couldn't believe our luck. I was thinking new community centre, new boxing club and, if I can get my six year old to act ill enough, a new bathroom suite for me and the wife.'
Morgan was not the only one to jump to such a conclusion. 'He's had two casseroles and an Arctic Roll out of me' explained Fenwick's next door neighbour Maureen Campbell. 'He might have fixed a shelf for me, but we had such high hopes that this was all going to lead to so much more.' It was only after the landlord of the local pub pointed out that there were never any cameramen following Fenwick around that the mistake was realised. 'Don't we full stupid' added Mrs. Campbell.
