The problem with GB is while much changes very little improves. Some years ago, before the advent of mass computerisation, Hampshire Constabulary employed a doctor on a freelance basis to examine detainees. When it became clear that said doctor was examining female prisoners rather more enthusiastically than was strictly necessary to fullfill the terms of his contract he was dismissed by the rural rozzers in a blaze of self righteous publicity. Unfortunately it subsequently emerged that the medic had previously been kicked out by the neighbouring Sussex force for the same misdemeanour. Questions as to why Hampshire's finest had employed someone with such a record were answered along the lines of "How were we to know, nobody told us". The idea that there might be some obligation on the boys in blue to ask questions around and about seems not to have occurred to them. I suspect that those who worry about the rise of Big Brother and a police state may be disappointed for a while yet.

I joined the Dennis the Menace Fan Club when I was in my twenties.
DONGUnlike the DTMFC the organisation this probationary copper belonged to was a banned terrorist organisation. One would have thought there would be some intelligence on its members. If he was yet to become a proppa coppa presumably there was some investigation into his past which unearthed his membership. So the point is not why didn't they know but why didn't they know earlier.
