Destroying antiquities is vandalism – except when we do it

One historian explained: ‘Technically if we do it – its regime change or liberation or some such thing. Anyway, it was probably an eye-sore in the first place - or smelt of curry. Dropping a bomb on a historic monument is part of our rich cultural heritage - like the dissolution of the monasteries or keeping Jimmy Saville in formaldehyde.’
