NewsBiscuit has accidentally published a novel
After more than 20 years publishing made-up news on the internet, NewsBiscuit has taken the worrying decision to start making things up at considerably greater length.
The Goblin Girl, the first novel by NewsBiscuit editor and long-time contributor Wrenfoe, is now out in paperback, hardback and ebook.
It tells the story of Mockery, a young goblin who has never seen the sky and has been raised to believe that humans are dangerous, incomprehensible creatures best avoided.
Unfortunately, the humans find her first.
Dragged into a civilisation built on slavery, religious certainty and a remarkably convenient version of its own history, Mockery has to learn the language and customs of her captors — while dealing with the increasingly irritating discovery that a few humans might not be entirely awful.
Darkly funny, strange and occasionally rather tender, The Goblin Girl turns the usual fantasy story around: this time the goblin gets to tell the story, and the humans have to explain themselves.

Early readers have described it as “a fantastic book”, “brilliantly different” and praised its “unique voice” — which has come as something of a relief to the author.
But there's another reason we're mentioning it here.
All profits from The Goblin Girl are going back into NewsBiscuit to help support and encourage new comedy writers.
So buying a copy simultaneously supports new writers and encourages Wrenfoe to write more books.
We accept that these objectives may not be entirely compatible.
The Goblin Girl is available now in ebook, paperback and hardback through Amazon and other booksellers, with wider distribution through NewsBiscuit Publishing.
And if you do read it and enjoy it, leaving an honest review is enormously helpful. Small independent books don't have enormous marketing departments behind them.
They have NewsBiscuit.
This may explain quite a lot.
