Captain Snort has been told to stop reduce exercises to save money, according to a Camberwick Green Parish Council source. It will continue to train soldiers preparing to be deployed or on deployments helping to organise the Chigley Biscuit Factory Dance. But Sergeant Major Grout, the second-in-command at the fort, who is not preparing for a specific deployment has been told to cut back on demonstrating their foot drill due to financial pressures.

It comes as the Prime Minister, formally the Mayor of Trumpton, faces pressure to increase spending on defence. Mr Troop the town clerk said the plans mean the soldiers will continue working in the community and responding to emergencies. But no longer doing what he called "nice to have training” like providing the local fire-fighting capability with their bright red mobile fire pump, which will be decommissioned.

This is bad news for the commander of Trumpton’s Fire Station Captain Flack who has already been forced to make Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, and Cuthbert, leaving him with just Dibble, Grubb and two retained firefighters, Chippy Minton the carpenter and his apprentice son Nibs.

It is understood there are plans to replace the fort’s army truck, which has been described as “humpety bumpety” by a Defence spokesperson, with an Apache helicopter.

An Army spokesperson, Private Higgins, said: "It is a shame. People used to wave, to the soldiers brave. Who would sing and shout, as they lurched about”.

The prime minister replied: "I've made that commitment very clear, and I have done for a considerable period of time. We are investing in a new windmill for Windy Miller, and replacing Doctor Mopp with an AI chatbot”.

The Tumptonshire mayor's office today confirmed it is taking back its highest honour, The Camberwick Shield, recently awarded for services to the village of Camberwick Green to the ever popular flour grinder, Windy Miller. The shield will then be rededicated to President Donald J Trump.

Speaking on the Trumpton Today Programme the mayor said: 'It is only right and proper we should give this honour to President Trump for his great contribution to the twenty-first century. No one has done so much for stop motion animation as he has. The shield will be awarded by Trumpton's highest military figure, Captain Flack, during a glitzy ceremony to be held at the bandstand on February 5th.

Details are as yet unconfirmed, but it's understood as part of the celebrations there will be a fire fighters' drive past with Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb all aboard their gleaming red fire engine with its bell ringing out loud and clear.

On hearing the news President Trump told reporters, 'This is a real smart move by the Mayor's office. The smartest. People are telling me that because everyone knows I deserve it. Nobody has done as much for Tumptonshire as I have. Can anybody deny it?"

When there was no response from the assembled hacks, Trump busted out several classic robot dance moves then continued. 'That's right. Even Brian can't.'

In a press conference held beside a stack of gilded MAGA hats, President Donald Trump announced his intention to annex Trumptonshire, having ‘done tremendous research’ by watching several YouTube clips late at night. Trump praised the county as ‘very British, very quaint, frankly very annexable’, apparently unaware that Trumptonshire is a fictional setting from a 1960s UK children’s television series.

“People are saying it’s not real,” Trump said, waving away questions. “But I saw it on video. It’s perfect, it’s even named after me. The US has to have it. Beautiful town hall, great clock. We’re going to cover both in gold leaf. Classy gold. The best gold.”

Trump also revealed plans to replace the statue of Queen Victoria in Trumpton’s market square with a ‘much taller, much better looking’ gold statue of himself. The president said the neighbouring villages of Camberwick Green and Chigley would largely be demolished to make room for ‘a world-class golf course, possibly two’, though Trump reassured reporters that Chigley’s biscuit factory would be spared. “They make biscuits,” he explained, “but we don’t do biscuits, so they’re going to bake cookies now. Big ones. American-sized. The factory workers dance together at 6pm every day, when they finish work. So nice. The music’s lame, though. I’m gonna change that – I’m gonna make ‘em dance to YMCA.”

Trump said he anticipated little resistance to the annexation, noting that Trumptonshire’s only defence appears to be Pippin Fort in Camberwick Green, ‘run by a small group of soldiers, led by a guy named Captain Snort – stupid name, not like mine – ‘Trump’ is a great name’. Emergency services were also described as ‘pathetic’, consisting of a police force of just two officers, PC Potter and PC McGarry; and a fire brigade led by Captain Flack, assisted by firemen Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb. “Great people,” Trump concluded. “But not exactly NATO.”
