The whole Strait of Hormuz thing is a massive, horrible mess, and it makes Donald Trump look like a LOSER. Which is pretty much the worst thing that could possibly happen, and threatens his re-election for a glorious third term.

But the American President has a solution. He is offering to bomb Oman and the United Arab Emirates – but in a good way.

Bombing the UAE and Oman will save the Iranians a lot of trouble. And bombing in a planned and precise way will mean that the UAE and Oman won't need to use up their valuable anti-missile missiles. Sounds mad? Don't worry. There is some logic to Trump's latest fever dream. The plan is to precision bomb a new waterway from the Strait of Hormuz to the Arabian Sea, so that oil tankers won't have to go past Iran.

'Digging would be way too slow,' said the President, in a rare moment of clarity. 'We can't dig a new waterway in time for the mid-term elections. Bombing will be quick and effective. We still have loads of bombs – good solid American bombs - and we're making new ones all the time. The rumours that we are running out of bombs are fake news. We'll use American shock and awe to build a new canal in record time.

'I'll be explaining my plan to the Sultan of Oman and also raisin it with the UAE. I reckon that they will be right on board. All of that land is just sand and no use for anything, not even golf courses. Once we've bombed it all out, we can scoop up the sand and make sandbags. Everyone in the Middle East wants to buy sandbags these days. We're going to clean up.

'I'm calling the new waterway the Donald J Trump Liberation Canal. It'll be great. And I have no doubt that the UAE and Oman will be happy to pay me back in full for the costs incurred.'

It's the new craze for deranged, octogenarian Americans which is proving even bigger than golf.

What you do is fire off missiles at Iran in a totally unprovoked attack in tandem with Benjamin 'I'm on trial for corruption' Netanyahu.

When it all comes back on you, you ping wildly from one desperate strategy to another, such as: blockading Iranian shipping; bombing the Iranian coastline; making a peace deal; promising Iran $300bn of someone else's money; lifting sanctions on Iranian oil; cancelling the peace deal; reimposing the sanctions; charging 20% tariffs on shipments leaving the Gulf; bombing Iran again and attacking international shipping.

'Anyone can play this game,' said a spokes-flipper for the Trump Corporation.

'All you have to do is be a sociopathic huckster who landed up in the world's most powerful post with hundreds of billions of dollars of weapons at your disposal, a massively inflated sense of your own abilities and zero knowledge of the Middle East.

'But you don't win any points in this game. Every move made in Trump Middle East pinball is completely pointless.'

This is the best ceasefire deal we could get for our darling child, Israel,' said US Secretary of State Marco Rubiks-Cube, who had brokered the talks.

'The terms are exactly the same as in the last ceasefire agreement - Israel can carry on bombing who and what the hell it likes in Lebanon while no one can attack it.

'It has the same deal in Gaza, by the way, and the truce there has held very successfully for eight months now, with Israel launching attacks and killing people on a near daily basis.

'This is all part of Israel claiming its inalienable right to exist,' Rubiks-Cube continued, feeding Benjamin Netanyahu a choc drop, 'along with its inalienable right to bring total misery to everyone around it.'

At press time, the IDF was celebrating the prospect of the new ceasefire by launching yet another air strike on a village in Southern Lebanon, just for the hell of it.
