It's not eye-rolling, it's trying to see eye-to-eye with ministers, say civil servants

Civil service leaders have rebuffed claims from government ministers that they roll their eyes at initiatives to reform Whitehall. “We do our utmost to see eye to eye with the ministers” said a civil service spokesbeing, “but the truth is, it's difficult to do when the loons' eyes keep swivelling. I think they are misunderstanding our efforts to follow them, with complacency.

In actual fact, it's quite exhausting on the eyes trying to see eye to eye with a swivel-eyed Tory minister. Because the eyes are the windows into the soul, we only allow the most experienced staff to do it. Some junior civil servants were on sick leave for months after catching just a glimpse of a Tory soul.
