Maybe it was the French: UK denies making Russell Brand famous

The UK is suffering from one of its semi-regular bouts of collective amnesia today as no one within its borders will admit to ever finding Russell Brand entertaining.
'I know it technically looks like we made Brand a multimillionaire by watching his shows and buying his books and that,' said an elected spokesman who gave his name simply as Andy. 'But wasn't us. Have you seen what he's been convicted of? No way we'd have ever heaped endless acclaim and opportunity on scum like that.'
As citizens continue to tell each other they never found Brand funny and that it must've been another nation who spent the noughties making him a household name, Andy added. 'We also never watched Jim'll Fixit or sang along to 'I'm the leader of the gang (I am). And, on the off chance anyone starts asking, let me absolutely clear. No one in the UK, not a single soul, has ever watched Little Britain.'
