Aardman Animation favourites Wallace and Gromit have been confirmed as contestants in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing confirmed show runners for the award-winning show. The long-running series returns for the 22nd time in January and will be presented by fan favourite duo Tess Winkleman and Claudia Daly.
The show is set to feature the usual line up of comedians, actors, sports personalities, former politicians and various celebrities from TV and promises to be the best show yet. Although Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke have been with the show from the start this will be the first time a pair of stop-motion characters have actually appeared as contestants.
Filming for the next production starts in January but the show will not go out until the autumn said Strictly creator Rachel Hopkins..’Yes, we can’t wait to get going on the next line-up…rehearsals for the show start early in the New Year’ confirmed Hopkins ‘we are super excited to have Wallace and Gromit on board but as you can imagine the dance routines will take a little longer to work out than usual.
Neither of them have ever danced before and it will take a while to knock them into shape.
Each show goes out live on BBC so it will start at 6am and conclude sometime around midnight. 'Our only concern is the studio lighting…. being made of clay and having no actual heart could turn out to be a disadvantage…as Ann Widdecombe found out when she appeared in the 2010 series,' said a BBC spokesman..
Wallace says he is looking forward to appearing in the show and has promised to cut out the cheese and take Gromit for long walks across the Yorkshire dales.
The pair have already been approached by several other shows such as Made In Wigan, Too Hot to Handle and Fifty Shades of Clay but turned down the offer of appearing on The Great Pottery Throw Down as the producers wouldn’t say if they were being invited as contestants or used to make a novelty teapot.
