Chaos returns to secondary schools as “No phones” rule gives pupils their childhood back
Secondary schools all over the country are facing a return to 1980’s style “corridor chaos” as the new rules on mobile phones dig in and pupils start behaving like children again. Unforeseen consequences to the new rules have seen pupils become more unruly on corridors and in playgrounds as their screens have been taken away at each morning’s registration.
Mr Scoggins, Year 8 tutor and AI and Cybersecurity teacher at Mussby Common Academy was quoted: ”It’s crazy! When they had their phones the kids would amble slowly between lessons giving me at least five minutes to snatch a quick vape after the bell before the next lot arrived. Now they leg it between lessons, charge like hell for the front of any queues and whack each other with their Nike Sports and Rehydration Packs. It’s ten years since I dished out a detention for running on the corridor but this year I’ve hardly had a break or lunchtime without one. And they never ask to go to the toilet now."
Supply teacher Mrs Tara Page said “This is a disaster! I used to be able to do my online Tesco list while the kids just Googled the answers to the work that the head of department had set and then got on with watching Porn or Tommy Robinson videos, but now I have to teach the kids. And it turns out that they don’t actually know everything - which really dents their confidence"
Another nearby Academy has considered shortening the school day as pupils no longer need 10 minutes to get between lessons. School bus driver Enid Brown did however praise the rules. “They get their phones back at the end of the day so when they get on the bus they are too busy checking Facebook and counting their new follows on TikTok to cause me any trouble. The top deck is like a library. I even have to remind them to get off at the right stop”.
